A Weekend in Brussels, October 2001
Below are some photographs of my weekend in Brussels, Belgium on 20th and 21st October, 2001. Click on the thumbnails to view the pictures.
As expected, the time that I had available was not enough to see all the sights I wanted to see. For example, I wasn't able to visit the Musée de Victor Horta or to do the tour of the spectacular Hotel de Ville (I arrived just a little too late for the organised tour). Maybe next time...
I flew there on a cheap ticket with Ryanair. Cost was £1 plus taxes, which worked out to around £22 in total. Despite Ryanair claiming that the flight went to Brussels, it in fact went to Charleroi which is a tiny rural airport about a 45 minute drive from central Brussels. A small shuttle bus connects with Ryanair flights to and from Brussels and the only alternative is a taxi which costs considerably more than the flight from the UK! The shuttle bus from Brussels to the airport is very small and fills quickly, not taking anything like the number of passengers likely to be on the plane, and if you miss out then you must get a taxi.
