le Tour de France, 2002

25 July, Stage 17: Aime - Cluses (142 km).
These pictures were taken about 100 metres from the top of the first climb of the day, the Cormet de Roseland. The temperature at the top of the mountain was a chilly 10 degrees C with a substantial breeze blowing into the faces of the riders as they struggled over the summit.

The lead group of Aerts, Frigo, Guitierrez, Laiseka and Guerini formed about 30 km into the stage, or about 1.5 km before the top of the Cormet de Roseland. Both Guitierrez and Laiseka were dropped from the group on the second climb of the day, the Col des Saisies, and the remaining 3 made it to the finish almost 3 minutes in front of the first chase group. Dario Frigo (Tacconi Sport) won the stage from Mario Aerts (Lotto) and Guiseppi Guerini (Telekom).
